Meet Kona

Kona’s journey has come full circle. She was adopted from us years ago and lived a life we hoped would be forever—but recently she was found as a stray and brought to the county shelter. When her previous owners never came for her, she was transferred back to us, and now she’s looking again for a place to call home.

Kona is a senior girl with a gentle, obedient spirit. She’s been nothing short of wonderful with our staff and volunteers—easy to handle, affectionate, and incredibly well-mannered during vet visits and daily care. She’s currently listed as a Foster-to-Adopt candidate due to early-stage kidney disease, which is being managed with a vet-prescribed diet and medication. We’ll cover her recheck in a few months to ensure the plan is working and she’s feeling her best!

During her current stay with us, Kona has done great in temperament testing—interacting well with dogs, cats, and kids alike. However, we also want to be transparent: when she was with us years ago, her behavior notes included guarding of food and toys around other dogs and a recommendation against homes with cats. While we haven’t seen those behaviors this time around, a little management and mindfulness when it comes to food and high-value items will help set everyone up for success.

Kona would thrive in a calm home where she can enjoy the comforts of a soft bed, some loving companionship, and the dignity every senior dog deserves. If you’re looking for a sweet, soulful dog who’s already past the puppy chaos and just wants to be your loyal sidekick, Kona is your girl.
