Dear Angels,

As our state begins to reopen and we work to get used to our “new normal,” I would love to take this moment to thank my incredible staff and volunteers for their ability to adapt to the ever-changing safety and social distancing protocols. Their enthusiasm and love for no-kill rescue never falters.

Like so many industries, animal rescue looks a little different today as more people are at home able to foster and provide these animals with an anxiety-free environment until we are able to find forever homes. To me, this was the silver lining in an otherwise stressful and tumultuous time and it is my hope this becomes the new standard in animal rescue…less animals in shelters!

For H.A.L.O.’s future, we are embracing digital fundraisers and events and learning how to stay connected to our community and supporters without being able to gather. We are more dedicated to saving lives than ever before and this month I am so happy to have the means to do another large rescue pull from the Bahamas to provide much needed relief.

Animal rescue certainly looks different, but I know we will continue to stand together in our mission to create a world with no more homeless pets! As Tip Burrows, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Grand Bahama, says “I’m just trying to believe that doing good will win out in the end.”

Believing in Miracles,

Jacque Petrone
Executive Director
