Meet Azul! 💙 Azul is a 1.5-year-old Australian Cattle Dog (Heeler) with a big personality, lots of energy, and an impressive collection of opinions! If you know Heelers, you know they aren’t exactly the “sit around and look pretty” type—and Azul is a true-blue working dog through and through.

Azul came to H.A.L.O. after his owner’s health declined and he was no longer able to care for him. He is smart, energetic, vocal, and happiest when he has a job to do. Give him a direction, a task, a game, or something to figure out and you’ll have one happy Heeler! He would love an active home that enjoys training, walks, enrichment, and keeping both his body AND his brain busy.

Azul is housebroken and already accustomed to being kenneled when left alone. His routine is to go outside right away when he comes out of his kennel before getting free roam of the house.

Although he didn’t previously live with other pets, Azul has temperament tested well with both dogs and cats here at the shelter. Proper introductions will still be important, but he has shown us that he can make some four-legged friends!

For his human family, we feel children 12+ would be the best fit. Azul hasn’t had much experience with kids, and when he feels scared, overwhelmed, or pressured into doing something he doesn’t want to do, he can be quick to use his teeth. That said, we’ve also discovered that Azul does MUCH better in a calm environment. After moving him to a quieter part of the shelter, we saw a noticeable improvement in his behavior—and we think there may be a wonderfully well-behaved boy hiding underneath all that shelter stress!

Azul isn’t looking for a couch-potato lifestyle. He’s looking for a person who will give him a job, keep him busy, teach him things, and let him be the delightfully intense Heeler that he is. In the right home, we think this handsome boy could absolutely shine! Ready for a dog who will keep you on your toes? Azul is waiting! 💙
