Meet Ella ❤️

Ella is 14 years old, and she’s a simple black cat who desperately needs someone willing to take a leap of faith and give her a chance.
Here’s the hard truth: Ella does not audition well. At all. She is frightened by the shelter environment, and that fear makes it very difficult for her to show anyone who she really is. And honestly, it’s hard to blame her. Ella didn’t do anything wrong. Her family had life changes that didn’t include her, and then, heartbreakingly, they abandoned her on our front bench at noon on a hot August day. Thankfully, our cameras caught what happened, and we were able to bring her safely inside before she suffered from the heat.
But here’s what we know about Ella: this isn’t the whole story. She previously lived in a home with children and another cat, and her family told us that she had “really come around.” In fact, she especially loved her feline companion. So now Ella is understandably pretty unhappy about being back in a shelter. She’s scared, confused, and wondering why her whole world has changed once again.
What we’re hoping for is someone with a huge heart who can give this senior girl a soft, peaceful landing for her golden years. Yes, she’s 14—but she recently sailed through her medical exam, her bloodwork was great, she takes no medications, and she has only three or four teeth. (Which means she may be especially appreciative of some delicious wet food!)
Ella doesn’t need someone looking for the perfect, instantly affectionate cat. She needs someone willing to say, “You don’t have to prove anything to me. You just need a home.”

Maybe Ella will blossom and become your devoted companion. We’d know there’s a lot of love hiding underneath that fear. But what if she takes time? What if she never becomes the lap cat you imagined?

Arrived at H.A.L.O. at 11 weeks old on 8/10/2012, had various long and short term foster placements over the years, adopted on 9/8/2023, and surrendered on 8/24/2026.
