Dear Rescue Friend,
As we welcome the fall season, I find myself reflecting on a very special group of animals who need us the most—our seniors.
At H.A.L.O., we believe every pet deserves a second chance, no matter their age. But when a senior dog or cat enters our shelter, the path to that second chance is often longer and more complex.
These sweet souls require more than just love and time. They arrive needing extensive medical care—bloodwork, dental x-rays, urinalysis, and often specialized diagnostics to get to the root of silent discomfort. From joint pain and dental disease to eye care and sensitive skin conditions, it’s almost like pressing the reset button on their lives. And that reset is nothing short of incredible to witness.
We watch them slowly transform as their needs are met with compassion and intention. Their eyes brighten. Their coats soften. Their steps become lighter. And while they wait longer than a puppy or kitten to be chosen, we remain committed to making every moment of their wait one filled with comfort and healing.
This level of care doesn’t come without cost. Senior pets often require prescription diets, which are significantly more expensive. Their medical care is more involved. Their stay is longer. But they are worth every minute and every dollar.
We are honored to be their safety net. To see them through the hard days and into the new beginnings they so deserve. And we are endlessly grateful to you—our supporters—for making this care possible.
Believing in Miracles,
